Creative Expressions Tuesday Blog

Dream Big .

Hi there , here I am back again with my regular post for Creative Expressions. Today I am going to show you a card that I made using just one stamp (well I did use a second stamp for the quote , but I could have done something else and not stamped a quote ) .

I used some of the foundations card in a buff colour to stamp and emboss the design with gold powder. I did this twice so that I could cut up the second image

I used watercolour paints to colour the flowers and the leaves and then cut out the flowers from one image . I then cut a strip of card that would fit across the card base as shown .  I pleated and folded Silky Crush Ribbon and stuck it to the strip of card . I attached the ribbon and flowers to a square of white card and then added some very thin cream ribbon down the wider pleated ribbon .
I stamped and embossed Dream Big onto a piece of buff card and mounted it and the main image on black and then gold card . I attached these as shown to the base with foam pads .
What l found interesting was that at this point the card looked unfinished and I wasn't quite sure why
. So I mounted the card onto a black card base so that there was a border of black around it . This
helped but it still wasn't right . After thinking about it I realised that all the pieces on the card worked together but didn't seem connected to each other . This was when I drew the fine black line around the edge of the card . Finally it looked right !

So here is another, larger picture of the final card .
I hope that this has given you some ideas about using just one stamp and I'll be back next week .
To make this card I used :---
Stamps to die for , Floral Cartouche.
Creative Expressions clear stamp set , Petite Lavish Sentiments.
Silky Crush Ribbon, Black .
Cosmic Shimmer embossing powder , Gold .

Creative Expressions Tuesday

Birthday Card .

On 29th February one of my friends reached his 20th birthday . ( he is very keen to get to his 21st birthday ) . In reality this was his 80th birthday and was obviously a date to celebrate. So I made him this card . I thought I would share it with you as it is a great card for a great gentleman!

To start the card I rubbed Colour Cloud blending inks over some buff card . I used Lemon Meringue from the left top corner and Ocean Blue in the bottom right corner and blended them together in the centre . I added a little Lavender Lace especially into the blue to deepen the colour.

I then stamped and embossed designs from two Creative Expressions stamp sets , Nautical Journey and Vintage Aviation onto the card as you can see . I embossed some of the images with gold embossing powder and some with black powder to create interest in the background.

I coloured some white card with the same coloured inks . Using white card means that these pieces stand out from the background. I then stamped and embossed the ship twice and Happy Birthday from Elegant Sentiments onto this coloured card . I cut out one of the ships so that I could attach it onto the base image with dimensional glue to add some dimension to the card .

The stamped card was then mounted onto gold and then black card and then attached to the main card with foam pads . I rubbed gold gilding wax around the edges of the card to finish the design.

I find making cards for men fun because I can do something completely different and I hope this has given you some ideas .

I used the following Creative Expressions items to make this card :-
Creative Expressions stamp sets , Nautical Journey and Vintage Aviation.
Elegant Sentiments Clear Stamp Set .
Colour Cloud blending inks.
Cosmic Shimmer embossing powders , Gold and Black.

Creative Expressions Tuesday

Just Because .

Good Morning , here's my regular Tuesday post for Creative Expressions . Today's card involves making a stamped background paper and some die cut flowers.

To create the background paper I used a sheet of Graceful Butterflies and Dragonflies paper by Phil Martin which I masked with low tack masking tape . I then rubbed Frosty Mink blending ink onto the unmasked areas . The masking tape can then be removed .

Using stamps from the Floral Fan Elements stamp set I stamped the flowers using mushroom pigment ink as shown and then painted them with Irridescent watercolour paints . I used part of this paper to cover the card .

I cut two pieces of card using the Hobart Adornment cutting die . The back of the papers in the pad I used are plain and tone beautifully with the patterned fronts so I stuck the die cut pieces to some of this paper leaving the centre area free and then cut around the die cut pieces . I cut a piece of card to
fit in between the die cuts and another slightly larger piece of black card to mount it on .

I then die cut lots of flowers from toning paper from the pad and I used the leftover stamped paper as well . The flowers were stuck together and the centres were added ( flat backed pearls painted gold ) . I also added gold paint around the edges of the petals to add a little sparkle.
To finish the card I stamped flowers from the stamp set onto the central panel and painted them to
match the background. The quote is from the same stamp set .

All the pieces of the card were assembled as shown here .
It was fun to use a piece of patterned paper and add to it to create a backing paper and I hope this might inspire you to have a go . I'll be back next week, bye for now .

Creative Expressions items used :-
Just Rite Clear Stamp Set , Floral Fan Elements.
Craft Dies by Sue Wilson , Hobart Adornment and Perfect Peony Complete Petals .
Irridescent Watercolour Paints.
Phil Martin premium paper collection .
Colour Cloud blending ink, Frosty Mink .

Creative Expressions Tuesday

Believe.

Hi there , well I'm back today with another card . This is a simple card using one stamp and contrasting black with a peachy main colour

The background of this card was created by stamping the Alexandra's Tea Rose with mushroom pigment ink randomly all over the card . As this stamp is quite large I masked parts of it with copy paper while stamping . Make sure the ink is dry and then rub Colour Cloud blending ink --- Baked Peach , Decadent Grape and Decadent Oak --- over the card blending the colours together.

Emboss a strip of card, I used the Large Sea Garden folder , and rub a little of the same inks over it .

I then rubbed Cast Bronze Gilding Wax over the raised embossed design . Black lace was then stuck along the back of the strip of card  which was then attached to the background as shown.

I rubbed the same blending inks around the edges of a smaller piece of card and then stamped the entire design onto the card . I coloured the design with watercolour paint but I could have used any colouring medium . The card was then mounted on black card and the whole piece was mounted onto the card using foam pads . The quote was from a Creative Expressions stamp set --- Vintage Aviation --- and was coloured and mounted in the same way. I finished the card with three flat backed pearls coloured with black alcohol ink .

I particularly enjoyed contrasting the soft peach with the black, I felt it created a dramatic effect. However I feel that this could be done with other colours to create a different effect . So that's all for now but I will be back next week .

Creative Expressions Tuesday

Hi there , I'm here again to share my latest design for Creative Expressions . I've gone all floral and pretty today. So here it is.

Maybe l'm being too hopeful but I decided to go with some very spring like colours when I made this card which is why I used purple and yellow . The embossed background was inked lightly with Lemon Meringue ink before being mounted on gold and then black card .

I die cut two pieces of card and coloured them with Decadent Denim Gilding Wax before attaching them as shown . They will need trimming to fit . I then added some lace over the top .

I stamped and embossed in gold this design four times so that I could use one full design and cut up
the others as shown . I then painted the flowers using Irridescent Watercolour Paint making sure that the yellow toned with the yellow on the embossed card .
I painted another piece of card to tone with the purple flowers and stuck the main image  onto this card . Once the glue was dry l cut carefully around the design to create a border .

When I attached the cut out flowers I used dimensional glue and shaped them a little. The flowers on the main design have a second layer of flowers to give added dimension.

I completed the design with flat backed pearls coloured with alcohol pens to tone with the purple of the flowers.
So for this design I used the following Creative Expressions items :-
Stamps to die for --- Floribunda .
Die by Sue Wilson--- Diagonals- Labyrinth.
Embossing Folder by Sue Wilson--- Fine Finials.
Gilding Wax--- Decadent Denim .
Colour Cloud Blending Ink --- Lemon Meringue.
